Our science association offers students a chance to engage in science-related activities that extends and enhances their knowledge & interest in the area of Science. It also aims to promote inquisitiveness among the students and inculcate scientific temper among them. The committee encourages, motivates and equips the students in the application of science and its interface with the society.

THE CHEM TECH EXPO on 3rd March 2025
The Chemistry Department of Ghanshyamdas Jalan College organized THE CHEM TECH EXPO on 3rd March 2025, an intra-collegiate competition featuring working models. Students from F.Y.B.Sc. and S.Y.B.Sc. presented a variety of innovative models, including water purifiers, solar power plants, periodic tables, air purifiers, and more. The event provided a platform for students to showcase their talent and creativity. Their enthusiasm and dedication were evident in the intricate designs and functional models they developed, reflecting their deep understanding of scientific concepts and problem-solving abilities. This competition highlighted the exceptional potential of the students and their ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practical, real-world solutions.






Two-day Zoology Fest, ZOOVENTURA
The Department of Zoology at Ghanshyamdas Jalan College organized a two-day Zoology Fest, ZOOVENTURA, in collaboration with IQAC. This inter-collegiate competition and exhibition attracted participation from various colleges across Mumbai, including Bhavans College, Ruia College, Kirti College, Thakur College, Sathaye College, and many more. The event featured a range of exciting activities such as a Wildlife Photography competition, Oceanography Model Exhibition, Zoology Quiz, Research Paper Presentation, and a Treasure Hunt. Students from other colleges participated enthusiastically, winning exciting prizes and showcasing their talent, knowledge, and dedication towards the field of Zoology. Their active involvement and passion for the subject made the event a grand success.






Zoology Department excursion for F.Y. B.Sc. and T.Y. B.Sc.
Our Zoology Department organised an excursion for the F.Y. B.Sc. and T.Y. B.Sc. students to Sanjay Gandhi National Park, that provided a great experience and a deep dive into the diverse vertebrates and invertebrates of the animal kingdom. Students observed a range of fascinating species, including spiders, grasshoppers, birds, butterflies, and various types of fungi, gaining a better understanding of biodiversity and ecosystems. In addition to the wildlife exploration, the students visited the historic Kanheri Caves, where they admired the ancient architecture and rock-cut structures, further enhancing their knowledge of cultural and historical heritage. The excursion was a perfect blend of natural history and archaeology, offering a holistic learning experience for the students.






Zoology Department organised an excursion for the S.Y. B.Sc.
Our Zoology Department organised the excursion for the S.Y. B.Sc. students to Valsad Apiculture. The students gained practical insights into the fascinating world of beekeeping. The visit provided them with a thorough understanding of apiculture techniques, including the methods of harvesting and collecting honey. Students learnt about the different species of honey bees and their unique roles within the hive. The experience not only enhanced their knowledge of beekeeping practices but also emphasized the importance of bees in pollination and maintaining ecological balance. This hands-on learning opportunity deepened their appreciation for sustainable farming practices and the critical role of bees in biodiversity.






Zoology Department organised an excursion for the T.Y. B.Sc.
Our Zoology Department On 30th September 2024 organised an excursion for the T.Y. B.Sc. students to Alibaug Beach. This excursion provided the students with an enriching experience where they explored the diverse marine life and learnt about the invertebrate species and the intertidal zone. The students observed a wide variety of crustaceans, shells, and even came across Sepia, a type of cuttlefish. The excursion also offered a chance to spot various marine birds, enriching their understanding of coastal ecosystems. This hands-on learning experience provided valuable insights into marine biology and the delicate balance of life in the intertidal zone, fostering both academic and environmental awareness.



Excursion organized by the Botany Department to ‘Maharashtra Nature Park’
During the excursion organized by the Botany Department to ‘Maharashtra Nature Park’ our Students explored diverse flora and fauna in this urban oasis. The park, located in Mumbai, is home to a variety of native plants, trees, and shrubs. Students could observe species like the Indian banyan, neem, and bamboo, alongside numerous medicinal plants. The excursion highlighted the importance of conserving biodiversity in metropolitan areas. Our Teacher’s explained the park’s ecological significance and its role in wildlife conservation. Students gained hands-on knowledge of plant identification and ecosystem dynamics, making the trip both educational and engaging. Overall, it was a valuable experience in environmental awareness.




The Science Club organized an Intra-collegiate Quiz Competition – “Quizathon” on 28.02.2022.
The objective of this Quiz was to encourage students to participate in the science quiz organized for enhancing the knowledge and awareness in their domain.
The Quiz was organized for B.Sc. students with the aim to inculcate in the minds of students a spirit of scientific analytical thinking and exchanging scientific thoughts. The students had shown active participation and enthusiasm.
The format of the quiz entailed 5 rounds which were presented on the projector screens. The time allotted to give the correct answer was as per each round, failing which the question was passed on to the next student. The students were at their best while answering the questions in different rounds of the quiz. It was a wonderful learning experience for the students to explore the world of science as the varied types of questions asked triggered the curious minds and made it a learning event with fun.

‘Wisdom Webinar Series’ on “Healthy Lifestyle and Cancer Prevention” on Zoom on 19th October 2020.
The resource person for the webinar was Ms. Arpita Chakraborty, Senior Program Executive at Sanjeevani Trust.
The webinar immensely helped the students and the other audiences in understanding the Do’s & Don’ts that one can follow for leading a healthy lifestyle and also the simple tips that one could follow in everyday life that can also help to prevent Cancer.

‘Wisdom Webinar Series’ on “Food for Mood” on Zoom on 26th October 2020.
The resource person for the webinar was Ms. Dhvani Shah, Nutritionist.
The webinar provided immense knowledge on how food choices impact brain function and mood and provide practical tips to develop healthy eating habits at home and work, for optimal health. Ms. Dhvani gave simple proven tips that help to improve our health and productivity in critical areas of health & wellness: fitness, nutrition and mind/body.
The students got to know the wonders of food and its healing properties that can be used as a daily dose of medicine, supplements, antibiotics and growth boosters.

Dr. Sheba Singh
Psychologist
‘Wisdom Webinar Series’ on “Anxiety Spectrum” on Zoom on 28th October 2020.
The resource person for the webinar was Dr. Sheba Singh, Psychologist.
Dr. Sheba shared her views on how to differentiate between an anxiety disorder, fear and phobias. The takeaway from the session was how to identify the symptoms of mental disorders, self-harm, lack of interest in daily life, suicidal thoughts, lack of self-care, inability to sleep.
She also discussed how one can cope with stress in many ways like spiritually, emotionally, mentally, physically and by way of counselling sessions.
