Nature Club
The Nature Club strives hard to create students who will be environmentally responsible citizens of society. Currently, human society is facing severe environmental problems like – climate change, greenhouse effect, energy crisis, depletion of natural resources, biodiversity loss, pollution of air, water and soil, etc.
The club organizes activities and encourages students to participate in these activities to develop a love for nature and instil awareness of the environment in the college community.

Engaging online quiz competition to celebrate the “World Wetlands Day”
The Nature Club of G.D. Jalan College organized an engaging online quiz competition on February 2nd to celebrate the “World Wetlands Day”. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students and professors across various colleges, showcasing their knowledge about wetlands and their vital role in the environment. Participants received e-certificates along with their scores, as a recognition of their efforts and knowledge. The quiz served as an excellent platform to raise awareness about the importance of wetlands while promoting learning and interaction among participants from different institutions.



Excursion to the “Manmohan Apiary”, Valsad, Gujrat
The Zoology Department of Ghanshyamdss Jalan College organized an excursion to the “Manmohan Apiary”, Valsad, Gujrat.
In this excursion our students could get acquainted with the knowledge of the life of bees, the work of a beekeeper and also got to know about the Career opportunities in “Apiary sciences”.



Raksha Bandhan for Trees!!
Students of G.D.Jalan College came up with yet another fascinating way of celebrating RAKSHA BANDHAN.
Each student who was passionate about nurturing the medicinal garden and protecting the ecosystem, adopted a plant from our medicinal garden and tied RAKHI to the adopted plant and took an oath to take care and protect the plant as long as he/she is a student at our college.
Kudos to the highly sensible & responsible young hearts.






Excursion to Sanjay Gandhi National Park
The Botany department of G.D.Jalan College had organised a One day excursion to SGNP (Sanjay Gandhi National Park), Borivali.
In the excursion the students were made to record the monsoon ephemerals and also were shown the various medicinal plants.
They also learnt about the “Forest Ecology” – that is the scientific study of the inter-related patterns, processes, flora, fauna and eco-systems in forests and also about the plant and animal interactions.




Excursion to Keshav Srushti, Uttan
Seeing is Believing!!!
The excursion organised by the Department of Zoology for the students pursuing Second Year degree of B.Sc. at G.D.Jalan College gave them an opportunity to visit ‘Keshav Srushti – a Nature & Adventure Centre’ located at Uttan village in Bhayander.
Here Our students practically gained knowledge on ‘Vermi-composting’ (The process of composting includes mixing of dried leaves, cow dung and the uses of the earthworm to make soil fertilizers).
Such practical knowledge becomes a life-long learning for the students instead of just the classroom learning.









Excursion to BNHS, Goregaon
As ‘All Elements in the Nature are the Best Teachers‘ therefore, the Department of Zoology of G.D.Jalan College had organized an excursion for our F.Y.B.Sc. students to the “Conservation and Education Center (CEC) of Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), Goregaon” in order to understand “Nature and Fauna”.
Here our students got an opportunity to observe and analyse the various species of Insects, Butterflies, Reptiles and Plants in the trail. They also learnt about the History of BNHS.






Excursion to Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary, Raigad, Maharashtra
The Zoology Department of our college successfully organized an excursion at Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary in Raigad district of Maharashtra on 1st of April, 2022. Our BSc Students undertook the study tour as per the suggested curriculum by the University of Mumbai. The students were accompanied by the teachers from the Science Department of Botany & Zoology.
The aim of this educational tour was to observe the living bio-fauna in their natural habitat. We also visited the “Kundalika River ” where students had a direct exposure to the aquatic ecosystem and related avian-fauna.
We feel happy to see that every year such successful educational tours make our students joyful and enlighten them with many unknown facts in the subject of Zoology. It was really an amazing excursion as we had a lot to learn along with having fun about the ecosystems of Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary, and the adapted biodiversity to this region.

‘Wisdom Webinar Series’ on “Natural Healing with Leaves” on Zoom on 3rd February 2022.
The resource person for the webinar was Dr. Raj Merchant.
Dr. Raj Merchant discussed the value of leaves as a therapy for treating and curing a variety of ailments and disorders. He also highlighted to the students how beneficial and intriguing Naturopathy is since it promotes positive thinking and promotes natural healing.
The students additionally got knowledge about a variety of leaves that the speaker addressed for the treatment of various health issues.
