National Service Scheme (N.S.S.)
The National Service Scheme (N.S.S.) is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. This scheme is implemented in our college with the N.S.S. motto “Not me but you”. The N.S.S. Volunteers are trained to serve the society and create awareness for their well-being. Many events organized by the university and college helps the volunteers to learn the importance of social well-being. N.S.S.-Unit helps to arouse social consciousness among the volunteers by providing them with opportunities to work with and among the people.

Stem Cell Donation Drive
The campus of Ghanshyamdas Jalan College came alive with vibrant energy and cultural fervor on 20th January 2024 as the annual intra collegiate event, “College Utsav,” unfolded in all its glory. Organized by the diligent efforts of the cultural committee, the event aimed to showcase and celebrate the diverse cultural tapestry within the college community.
The festivities kicked off with an electrifying opening ceremony, where the college auditorium was transformed into a visual feast of colors. The main stage witnessed a mesmerizing array of performances that spanned a multitude of cultural expressions.
Saving lives : Cardiac Arrest Action Plan
The NSS Unit of G.D.Jalan College organised a workshop on – “Saving lives : Cardiac Arrest Action Plan” that was held on 30th September, 2023 on the “World Heart Day” in our Auditorium.
All the NSS Volunteers, students and the Professors participated in the session.
They trained them to use AED mechanic and how to perform CPR on the patient who has suffered Cardiac arrest to revive them.

Food Distribution
The NSS Unit of G.D.Jalan College distributed the food packets to the poor & needy on the streets of Malad (East) Mumbai, as a Social initiative showing their concern and care to serve this segment of underprivileged.

Old Age Home Visit
Today the students of the NSS unit of G.D.Jalan College visited the Senior Citizens Home in Goregaon and spent a day with the “Senior Citizens” by engaging and entertaining them by conducting various activities that brought a smile on their faces.
You can see the Cheerful faces of the Senior citizens and our students who were more than Happy to voluntarily undertake this visit to meet the “Senior Citizens”.
Kudos to the young generation for being so sensitive towards the Senior Citizens.
Blood Donation Drive
“Donate Blood, Save Life & Feel Proud” is the motto followed by the N.S.S. Unit of G.D.Jalan College.
N.S.S. Unit of G.D.Jalan college in collaboration with the “Suburban Hi Tech Blood Center” organised the “Blood Donation Drive” on 1st December, 2022 where students gathered in large numbers to donate blood exhibiting a very high level of social responsibility…

NSS Tree Plantation Drive
Understanding the importance of nature for our existence and conserving mother earth in all ways is our moral responsibility. It’s a fact that without trees, we humans would not exist on this beautiful earth planet. Continuing the tradition of preserving the environment and conducting eco-friendly activities, the Tree Plantation Drive was organised by the NSS unit of G.D. Jalan College & P-South division of BMC Department. The drive was organised in the BMC Garden, on World Nature Conservation Day, 28th July 2022.
Seminar on ‘Cancer Awareness’
As we all are aware that ‘Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the World’, Keeping this in mind, the NSS unit of our college had organized a “Cancer awareness session” in our Auditorium. The session was organised in association with “CanKids…KidsCan“, Mumbai.
In all there were 10 volunteers from “CanKids…KidsCan“. Out of which some were cancer patients and some Cancer survivors who shared their experiences with our students and also how they could fight cancer by being calm & positive.
They also performed a skit and a dance to create awareness and to prove that Cancer is not the end of life and there is always a ray of hope for a better and a bright future.
We could actually see a tremendous energy flowing out of all the Volunteers….who made us think positive for life from that very moment.
World Suicide Prevention Day
The NSS Unit of G.D Jalan College had organized a rally in Malad (East) on 10th September 2022, with respect to “World Suicide Prevention Day“.
A large number of students participated in the rally “To spread awareness regarding suicide prevention and to promote mental health“.
Yoga Day
N.S.S. Unit of Ghanshyamdas Jalan College has organized a “Yoga Session” in association with Patanjali Ayurved Limited on 25th June 2022. All the students and the teachers of our college participated with great enthusiasm and Vigour. Our Director, Dr. Rajeshwari Ravi & our Principal, Dr. R. Govindappa also participated in the program.
The function began with a brief introduction of Yoga Day by our resource person, Ms. Dipika Panchal, a Certified Patanjali Yoga instructor.
Orientation Program on “Environment Education”
N.S.S Unit of Ghanshyamdas Jalan College had organized an Orientation on “Environment Education Project” under the aegis of Clean Shores Mumbai and in association with United Way Mumbai on 1st August 2022. All the NSS volunteers had participated with great enthusiasm in the program.
The program began with the introduction of cleaning the marine shores by the resource person Mr. Swanand Gawde, the Coordinator of Community Impact project in United Way Mumbai, Bandra.
Independence Day: National Flag Distribution Rally
N.S.S. Unit of Ghanshyamdas Jalan College had organized a rally on the occasion of “Azadi ka Amrit Mohatsav; 75 years of Independence” on 15th August 2022. The NSS Volunteers of our college participated along with Prof. Shivnetra Rampalli and Prof. Wamakshi Verma.
A specialized kind of eco-friendly flags were purchased for the occasion. The flags were made of paper pulp containing Tulsi seeds in it. After the use of the flag the tulsi seeds can be sawed in a pot and nurtured to grow into Tulsi plants. The Volunteers distributed flags to the pedestrian, Sellers and Vendors on the street.
Poster Making Competition
To celebrate our 75 years of Independence, India is celebrating “Azadi ka Amrit Mohatsav”. To create awareness regarding this theme, the N.S.S unit of Ghansyamdas Jalan College had organized a “Poster Making Competition” on 12th August 2022. The competition was held in our seminar hall. The Topic of the competition was “India’s growth after 75 years of Independence” & many students participated in the competition.
All participants were very resourceful and they all expressed their creativity in the poster created by them very well. Our judge of the competition Dr. Rajeshwari Ravi, Director of Academics & Administration selected the Winners and Runner-Ups of the competition at the end of the session.

The Six Core Constitutional Laws
The N.S.S. Unit of Ghanshyamdas Jalan College had organized a Seminar on “The Six Core Constitutional laws” under the MoU signed with Nirmala Nikatan College, on 18th April 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. All the N.S.S Volunteers, students of Degree College along with professors actively participated in the seminar.
Mr. Sandesh Ladge, an owner & founder of Shwas Youth Career Guidance Institute LLP was the resource person for the seminar and he started the session with small games. After that in a very playful manner he explained in short about the 6 Core Values: related to Democracy and Secularism, Gender Justice, Social Justice, Dignity of Labour and Honesty & Integrity etc.
The session was highly interactive & the attendees enjoyed the session very much.
Project Joy of Giving
The N.S.S. unit of G.D. Jalan College organized the “Joy of Giving” drive in our campus where the students and the staff donated things in kind like toys, clothes and snacks.
The donations were collected for 10 days in the college campus and the N.S.S. unit finally distributed all the collected items to an Orphanage on 13th April, 2022.
The entire N.S.S. unit were thrilled to see the happiness and excitement on the face of all the inmates of the orphanage after the donated items were distributed amongst them.
So our students realised that “Joy comes from Giving & Not Just Taking.“
‘Wisdom Webinar Series’ on “iCARE_(Cardiac Arrest Resuscitation for everyone) by Holy Family Hospital, Mumbai” on Zoom on 8th February 2022.
The resource person for the webinar was Ms. Sumaiya Raghvan & Mr. Anand Shrivastav.
Ms. Sumaiya Raghvan & Mr. Anand Shrivastav, A Team from Holy Family Hospital explained and demonstrated how to recognise a Sudden Cardiac Arrest, to execute CPR, and to operate the life saving device AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
The Webinar was highly instructive and engaging since it taught us how to react and respond during various life threatening situations and take necessary protocol in case of an emergency.

A webinar on “Two Wheels One Life : Safety for Two Wheeler Riders” by Mr. Cyril Gaikwad and Mr. Rohit Dalvi, United Way Mumbai was organized by the ‘NSS Cell’ of our college on 10th November 2020.
Mr. Cyril Gaikwad explained Road safety for Two-Wheeler Rider as it is the most important criteria that needs to be followed at all times to ensure the safety of the operators of a vehicle, passengers, and pedestrians. In fact, road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death among the masses. Mr. Rohit Dalvi also explained the measures and methods taken to establish road safety which includes the use of various road safety products. Well-designed and uniquely engineered road safety products that ensure the constant safety of vehicles and pedestrians.
